Scarborough access varies block by block

A Scarborough piano move may begin in a bungalow with porch steps, a split-level house with a tight landing, a townhouse with limited visitor parking or a condominium with a reserved elevator. A city name is not enough to quote the job. We need the piano type and complete route at both addresses.

Send a short video from the piano to the exterior pickup point and another from the delivery entrance to the final room. Show every step, doorway, turn, railing and grade change. Photos taken only from the middle of a room often hide the part that determines crew size and handling method.

Bungalows, basements and split-level homes

Older detached homes can have generous main rooms but narrow side entrances, raised porches or finished basements with sharp turns. Measure door openings at the narrowest point and show whether a storm door, railing or low ceiling reduces working space. A sunken living room adds steps even when the property is described as a main-floor pickup.

For basement routes, photograph from both ends of the staircase and include the landing beyond the final step. Do not remove railings or doors before the route is reviewed; sometimes they are irrelevant, while in other cases a contractor or property owner must handle them before moving day.

Condo and apartment elevator planning

High-rise buildings may require a freight-elevator reservation, loading-dock time, certificate of insurance and refundable deposit. Confirm the elevator door opening and interior dimensions rather than relying on a general statement that moving is allowed.

Send building instructions with the quote request. Our insurance and WSIB information explains why paperwork and physical access are separate checks. A valid elevator booking does not guarantee that a tall upright or protected grand body can make every hallway turn.

Upright and grand piano preparation

Uprights normally travel in one protected piece, but height, weight, casters and loose cabinet parts still matter. Player pianos and tall studio uprights may require a different crew plan from a small apartment piano. Identify the make and model when possible and include a full side photograph.

Parking and east-end route timing

Drive time matters, but the distance from the door to the legal truck position can matter more. Tell us about loading areas, busy commercial frontage, narrow residential parking, construction and seasonal restrictions. A long carry through a complex should be shown on video instead of described only as ground floor.

Routes using Highway 401, Kingston Road or cross-Toronto streets can change with the appointment window. We plan the scheduled route, but travel time cannot be guaranteed against traffic, weather or building delays. If the destination is outside Scarborough, include both access conditions in the same request.

Schools, churches and community spaces

Institutional moves require a site contact, approved arrival time and a clear route that does not depend on students, congregants or event staff moving around the piano. Stages, ramps, service corridors and locked doors should be reviewed in advance. Tuning needs are assessed after placement; a move does not automatically mean every piano needs an immediate pitch raise.
